Formulae for Growth Factors In Expanding Universes Containing Matter and a Cosmological Constant
نویسنده
چکیده
Formulae are presented for the linear growth factor D/a and its logarithmic derivative d lnD/d ln a in expanding Friedmann-Robertson-Walker Universes with arbitrary matter and vacuum densities. The formulae permit rapid and stable numerical evaluation. A fortran program is available at http://casa.colorado.edu/∼ajsh/growl/.

Accelerating Universes and String Theory
This article reviews recent developments in the study of universes with a positive cosmological constant in string theory. 1. The Challenge of Time It is evident that the world around us changes in time. At cosmological scales there is strong evidence that the universe was much hotter and denser some 13 billion years ago and has expanded and cooled since then, probably even undergoing an early ...
متن کاملWormholes and the Cosmological Constant*
We review Coleman’s wormhole mechanism for the vanishing of the cosmological constant. We show that in a minisuperspace model wormhole-connected universes dominate the path integral. We also provide evidence that the Euclidean path integral over geometries with spherical topology is unstable with respect to formation of infinitely many wormhole-connected 4-spheres. Consistency is restored by su...
متن کاملThe asymptotic collapsed fraction in an eternal universe
We calculate the maximum fraction of matter which is able to condense out of the expanding background universe by gravitational instability – the asymptotic collapsed fraction – for any universe which is unbound and, hence, will expand forever. We solve this problem by application of a simple, pressure-free, spherically symmetric, nonlinear model for the growth of density fluctuations in the un...
متن کاملPositive Vacuum Energy and the N-bound
We argue that the total observable entropy is bounded by the inverse of the cosmological constant. This holds for all space-times with a positive cosmological constant, including cosmologies dominated by ordinary matter, and recollapsing universes. The argument involves intermediate steps which may be of interest in their own right. We note that entropy cannot be observed unless it lies both in...
متن کاملBulk viscous string cosmological models in Saez – Ballester theory of gravitation
Spatially homogeneous Bianchi type-II, VIII and IX anisotropic, as well as isotropic cosmological models can be obtained in a scalar tensor theory of gravitation proposed by Saez and Ballester (1986) when the source for energy momentum tensor is a bulk viscous fluid containing one-dimensional cosmic strings. All the models obtained and presented here are expanding, non-rotating and accelerating...
